Director of Instrumental Music

​

Cheri Acosta Sleeper, after completing her fourteenth year as Director of Bands at King High School, moved to start up the music department at Strawberry Crest High School.  She has been a music educator for 31 years. She received her Bachelors degree from Florida State University and a Master of Arts in Music Education from The University of South Florida. She earned her second Master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2005.  In 1998 and 2002 she served as the Hllsborough County Middle School Honor Band Clinician and Hillsborough County Middle School Honor Jazz Band respectively and is frequently sought after as a clinician throughout the county. She is a member of the Florida Bandmasters Association where she has served as both District Chairman and Secretary. Other professional affiliations include membership in the Music Educator National Conference, Hillsborough County Secondary Music Council, and Tau Beta Sigma Music Sorority. Mrs. Sleeper has served on various committees during her tenure in Hillsborough County helping to shape the path to success for many young musicians. She assisted in writing the curriculum currently used in Hillsborough County music classrooms and also helped to author the Criteria for the Master Musician Program and the Honors Band Curriculum. Mrs. Sleeper served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Professional Development for Music Educators Grant project, has been nominated to the Who's Who Among America's Teachers on two separate occasions and has been awarded the National Honor Rolls Outstanding American Teachers Award. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mrs. Sleeper serves as a marching band music arranger for various schools throughout the United States and performs as a freelance artist around the county.
